Aesop Rock at McCarren Park Pool, 8/17/08

By Nadia Collado
August 22nd, 2008

The Aesop performance at the McCarren Pool Party on 8/17/08 was a much different experience than when MGMT performed at the same venue. With help from DJ Big Whiz, Aesop Rock dropped that bass and kept the crowd bumping throughout the night.

Michelle, Ma Belle: It’s All in a Name

By Nadia Collado

I started off this article with the intention of picking apart the Beatles’ Rubber Soul. At the time I considered it my favorite album from the fab foursome. But as I listened to it while writing, I realized that this was no longer true. Rubber Soul is not my favorite Beatles‘ album. This is because [...]

Stoner Jams (4 bud-induced ditties)

By Nadia Collado
August 4th, 2008

I don’t know about you, but sometimes, after a long day at work, all I want to come home to is a big, fat, freshly-rolled dutch blunt. No man, no dinner on the table (well maybe afterward I wouldn’t mind a bowl of pasta…or 3), nope, none of that, just a fatty. I have a [...]

Free Concerts (Farewell McCarren Park Pool!)

By Nadia Collado
August 2nd, 2008

By Nadia Collado
July 26th, 2008

It was hard for me to create this list because I never really consider what I listen to as a guilty pleasure (now ice cream, that is a different story). Yes, some music has more integrity than the rest, but that has never propelled me to delegate certain artists as people I should feel guilty [...]

Sell Out!!!

By Nadia Collado
July 25th, 2008

A hell of a term, eh? Think about it. Do you ever respond to the words “sell-out” without automatically letting its negative connotation taint the subject?
“Oh so-and-so sold out. Their song is on the Red Lobster commercial. Bummer.”

Street Tunes Incident

By Nadia Collado
July 20th, 2008

One of the perks of living in a big city (or a city for that matter) is the rhythmic sounds that fill your eardrums at the turn of a corner. The saxophone player that stands in the middle of the park, the three sweaty youngsters beating on drums whilst roughing their musical palms, the old [...]
