The editors at JamsBio like to think of ourselves as music fans first, not critics, and that’s the sensibility we strive for at JamsBio and that we seek in other sites as well. That’s why we’re so jazzed about Damn Fine Day, a site that each day profiles a deep album cut that’s been overlooked, but deserves a place in everybody’s collection. In the name of spreading the gospel about great music, we present “The Daily Deep Cut,” where we add our two cents about the songs featured on Damn Fine Day. Once you read our unique take, we’ll send you over to Damn Fine Day so you can stream the full track and download it if you like. Sometimes we might even suggest another deep track from the same album or present some other novel twist on what their hawking.

“I Want You Right Now”

(1969, Elektra)

“Kick out the jams, motherfucker!” I remember hearing those first lines spewed from the second track of MC5’s masterpiece when I was 14 years old and thinking to myself that something great was going on in my head. I would never be the same again, and the way I approached music would certainly change forever. “The time has come for each and everyone of you to decide, whether are you are gonna be the problem or whether you are gonna be the solution.” “Are you ready to testify?” Hell, yeah! This was some heady shit, but I was a willing follower. I was ready for the revolution, and the MC5 was going to guide me down that path of wild abandon. From here, my musical consciousness was wide open, lapping up anything that even remotely had the potential of shaking me to the very core they way Kick Out the Jams had. Patti Smith, The Clash, 13th Floor Elevators, The Replacements, Husker Du…my ears were wide open and have remained so ever since that fateful day when the Motor City Five rocked my ass off and melted my young, impressionable brain.

I wanna hear some revolution out there!

You wanna hear some revolution? Then I suggest you head over to Damn Fine Day to sample the glory that is Kick Out the Jams.

Saw these guys live in ‘69 – what a show. It was an old grocery sotre converted into a concert venue, meaning low ceiling and concrete floors. They tore the roof off and blew the walls out. Wayne Kramer and “Sonic” Smith were superb!
