The editors at JamsBio like to think of ourselves as music fans first, not critics, and that’s the sensibility we strive for at JamsBio and that we seek in other sites as well. That’s why we’re so jazzed about Damn Fine Day, a site that each day profiles a deep album cut that’s been overlooked, but deserves a place in everybody’s collection. In the name of spreading the gospel about great music, we present “The Daily Deep Cut,” where we add our two cents about the songs featured on Damn Fine Day. Once you read our unique take, we’ll send you over to Damn Fine Day so you can stream the full track and download it if you like. Sometimes we might even suggest another deep track from the same album or present some other novel twist on what their hawking.

“Keep On Doing What You Do/Jerks On The Loose”

(1982, Warner Bros.)

Ah, the Roches. That’s a band I haven’t thought much about lately, but it’s a real treat to relive “Keep On Doing What You Do/Jerks On The Loose,” the remarkable last track from the trio’s 1982 album, Keep On Doing. Famously produced by Robert Fripp, whose guitar work so expertly guided the Roches’ debut, and featuring the King Crimson rhythm section of Tony Levin and Bill Bruford, Keep On Doing is just as strong as the trio’s first two albums. And that’s saying something! Really, there’s nothing to even compare the group’s sound to, it’s that original. Perhaps not as hip as some of the post-punk ladies of the time – the Slits or the Raincoats – but certainly just as edgy.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of listening to the complex songs of Suzzy, Terre, and Maggie, then I implore you to head over to Damn Fine Day and enjoy the magic of “Keep On Doing What You Do/Jerks On The Loose.” I promise you, it will only have you begging for some more.
