The author apparently favors Tweedy over Farrar - the song "Anodyne" is the highpoint of the album, a foreshadowing of what was to come with Son Volt, and well worth more than 2 stars. Tweedy had yet to reach his full potential but Farrar had already hit his stride.

And the bottom line is that the album is NOT consistent. It's the sound of a band and a relationship fracturing.
