Voices from Red Rocks: Memories of U2’s Greatest ConcertBy
Douglas Newman
On a cold, wet June night in 1983 at Denver’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre, U2 proved why they were the greatest band on the planet. Braving the harsh elements, the Irish rockers tore through a set of 18 anthems with a fire and passion that only U2 can achieve. Soon after, this now legendary show was released as the live album, Under a Blood Red Sky and the video, Live at Red Rocks. The rest is history. In this special edition of Voices: A JamsBio Podcast, fans who were lucky enough to witness U2’s watershed concert share their memories of the night. If U2 performed this concert today, they’d start a revolution. Maybe even save the global economy. Or at least for one night it would feel like they and their music could save us all. Ah, to go back 25 years in time. Yikes, that’s before I was born. This video made me tingle, especially the part where Bono took of his shirt and the steam poured from his skin. Sexy back baby. Willy: Ego-maniacal yes, self-righteous perhaps, but talentless they are not. I’m curious what bands do you listen to? nik said:

Like, U2 could do Red Rocks II and it would change the world with Rock and Roll, man. If U2 did that show there wouldn’t be any more Global Warming, Poverty or Republicans because everyone would be like, “whoa, that show was AWESOME.” And the rest of the world would be like, “Dude, you Americans totally ROCK!” And we’d be like, “Yeah…” Whoa. |
