Oasis, Takin’ It to the Streets…LiterallyBy

Screw leaking your album on the Internet to build buzz or leaving zip drives in the bathrooms at your concerts and alternate reality games (actually Trent, that idea was a genius lead up to Nine Inch Nail’s Year Zero, do it again!), if you’re looking for a new method by which to intrigue fans… take it to the streets. The members of Oasis have. On Friday, Sept. 12, members of the band met with 30 New York City street buskers to teach them four songs off the band’s new album, Dig Out Your Soul. The buskers, all a part of the Metro Transit Authority program, spread out throughout the city and performed the songs: “The Turning,” “Bag It Up,” “(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady” and the first single, “Shock of Lightning.” The stunt, a joint effort between Oasis, their record label and the City of New York, is definitely a unique method of putting your songs out there. Considering the wide variety of musicians involved, there are likely some very interesting takes on the songs: Brazilian violin, jazz guitar, hard country blues and gospel, funk, world hip-hop and more. The performances were filmed by music video directors, The Malloys, and are available online at Here’s an overview The band members were also scheduled to perform this past Saturday night at Terminal 5 in the city, unfortunately the show was canceled thanks to injuries caused by a random assault on Noel Gallagher at a concert in Toronto. The band’s seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul, is due out on Oct. 7 On top of the performances, the band made the sheet music available for the tunes on September 16th, via the Oasis Songbook: http://www.oasisinet.com/digoutyoursoulsongs/ Fans who record their renditions and submit the video to YouTube have the chance to win tickets to any upcoming Oasis show, no matter the location. |
