Concert Review: Ours (Albuquerque, NM 7/8/08)By

It’s great to get lost in music. All you have to do is put on a pair of headphones, sit back, and let your mind wander to wherever you want to be. This is a wondrous experience. However, what’s even better is watching a great live show. It makes me wonder sometimes if live shows will ever be able to last. CD’s are now MP3’s. What ever happened to going to your local music store and buying a CD? I’m still one of the few people who do that just for the experience of opening the annoying plastic and reading the CD booklet. It’s a thing of the past, which makes me think live shows will also be a thing of the past. So many people make excuses about not going to shows, even if it’s only 10 dollars at a local venue. It makes me sick to my stomach. I believe it’s one of the greatest experiences to go out and see a band play, even if you’ve never heard of the group before. The best thing about checking out a live show (besides the music, of course) is spending time with people who you care about deeply. If you’re surrounded by friends, it makes the musical experience that much better. On July 8th, I had the opportunity once again to see Ours play. They are currently touring with God or Julie and Plain Jane Automobile. This was my fifth time seeing Ours live, and I have to say this experience was by far the best. As usual, Jimmy Gnecco nailed it. He’s always perfect, even though he never thinks he is. This show had the most amazing encore I had ever witnessed. Gnecco pounded the drums as the lead singer from Plain Jane Automobile (Duke Crider) sang “Get Up,” which is from Ours’ newest album. Most of the members from God or Julie took the stage, and everyone synchronized together in harmony. It gave me the chills. But I need to get to my point now about a live show. Of course you go to a concert to enjoy the music, but it’s everything else that happens at a show that makes it just that much more magical. July 8th was probably one of the best days of my life. I say this because I met some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my life. The members from Ours, God or Julie and Plain Jane Automobile are the most laid-back musicians I have ever come across. Everyone knows (or at least they should know) that musicians are normal people, too, but oftentimes a lot of musicians go too far with the “rock star” act. So saying this, I met some of the greatest people… just people… during that night. It was hard saying goodbye to all of the bands at the end of night. This wasn’t just because the show was great, but it was hard for the fact that I made a few friendships in an incredibly short time span. I’m a person who believes that every person who comes into your life affects you in some way, shape or form. These guys definitely had an impact on me. They’re fun-loving and they adore life. I know it’s cliche, but because of them, I now remind myself to live everyday to the fullest. So, please… I’m begging you… go see a live show! Bring the people who you care about most. I guarantee even if you don’t meet people like I did, you’ll be reminded of how wonderful your friends are and why they’re in your life. This is what music does. It brings out emotions, and a live show brings out even more emotions – including people who you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

I brought one of my best girls to see them @ HOB in Dallas Saturday – it was her first show, my second. We were both completely in awe of Jimmy and the rest of the guys. It was one of the most intense and emotional shows i’ve ever been to. Thanks for sharing – this was an awesome article! Take care - |
