A twangy Jessica SimpsonBy
David
Seems like a short week of surrealness. A new James Bond novel falls in bookstores this week, Devil May Care, which comes from the officially-sanctioned pen of someone other than Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming. In terms of British superheroes, he’s definitely my Harry Potter. And in news which couldn’t be more different, a track has been released from Jessica Simpson’s forthcoming I’m-suddenly-a-Nashvillian-ya’ll country album… and it’s not bad.
The song “Come On Over” has been released on the website of WQIK. What seems like an official leak, the track has some Ryan Adams-esque guitar flourishes with the typical generic lyrics of “new country”. In perhaps homage to Shania Twain (who has been back in the news recently upon word that she and her husband/producer, the legendary Robert “Mutt” Lange are separating after a long marriage), the track shares its name with Shania’s Come On Over album, of the best selling recordings of all time. Will people embrace the music of a countrified Jessica Simpson… or does it boil down to what the first video looks like? |
