Just when you thought HBO’s notorious Fraggle Rock was nothing but an 80’s nostalgic trip, the television show is set to become a live action movie.   For those of us who remember Jim Henson’s creation, the series featured Fraggles and Doozers living together in harmony at a place called Fraggle Rock.  The show’s characters spent their days trying to avoid the wrath of creatures called Gorgs with the help of an all-knowing trash heap named Marjory.

Rumor has it that the movie features characters like Wembley, Boober, Mokey and Red leaving their home of Fraggle Rock and meeting humans who they believe are aliens. Personally, I can’t wait to watch the new movie especially with the news that Hoodwinked’s, Corey Edwards, will write and direct the screenplay with musician and son-of-Frank, Ahmet Zappa, producing the movie.   It should be interesting to say the least!

Hollywood seems fixated on the reincarnation of old cartoons and children television programming.  At least, the news of Fraggle Rock’s rebirth speaks to a reserve of devoted fans.

The program’s jingle still rings through in my very own ears.  And, I bet you’ve probably sang the tune to yourself at some point in your life if you were an 80’s child.

“Dance your cares away, worries for another day!”

Now, if Hollywood would just revive Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, they’d renew my faith in film — especially after remakes like Speed Racer.
