Lou Reed just gave the keynote at SXSW and the coolest man alive did not live down being Lou Reed. He would utter something in the most dead pan of ways and would then have to scream “JOKE!” and people delivered nervous laughter. He may be cool, but you could easily imagine him punching you in the face.

There were too many great quotes delivered in Lou-fidelity:

- “One of my favorite movies is The Bourne Ultimatum… I love one of the martial arts scenes” (which makes sense given one of his hobbies)

- Songwriters should “not give up their publishing”. After 11 years of litigation, Lou learned this first hand.

- Audiophiles are going to be like “strange animals in the zoo”. People need to demand good sound for it to happen. “Technology makes things easier to make worse”

- After a cell phone went off, Lou was not amused… “what’s the word down here in Texas for turning your phone off? ‘Howdy?’”

- Someone who was alluded to as being a famous musician recently told the soon-to-be-touring Lou, “Touring is like jail. Don’t get fucked.”

- Many of the new groups have impressive “energy”

He also gave impressive credit to current musicians who do happen to incorporate computers into the process, so complete technophobe he is not.

Lou has an unbelievably heavy presence with a heavy soul. Just watch your face when near him.

Props to “Dr.” Reed and his sagely advice…so when does he “sing”?
