A story broke earlier this week concerning the idea that various new flavors have been appearing in the US water supplies, such as “the sedative Diazepam, the mood stabilizer Carbamazepine and estrogen”. In some ways we can be grateful for this news… it finally explains why the NBC show “Friends” was so popular.

In other news, it appears that embattled New York governor Elliot Spitzer is set to resign over a series of reportedly “no condom” orgasms. Below is supposedly the last encounter, courtesy of gawker.com:

Elliot Spitzer… so generous with his time and hypocritical crusades that he’s willing to have sex with women who have really blurry faces.

But enough about sex… it’s time for drugs & rock ‘n roll. The music portion of SXSW kicks off today. And we’re so on the cutting, absolutely bleeding edge, that we have seen bands that don’t even exist yet. And they were just okay…

If you need to be lame and see artists who do exist, try these on for size today if you’re in Austin and have a badge around your neck:

The Ting Tings

Simian Mobile Disco

Saul Williams

The Raveonettes

The Kills

Van Morrison (!)

…and the friendly fathers of alternative music in this country (which the mainstream later embraced)… R.E.M. They’ll be playing a midnight show at Stubb’s BBQ tonight. Although that probably means 1 am. After a long day of sun, drinking and BBQ, will anyone still be awake? All signs point to yes…
