Is it frightening to think that an un-scalped ticket to see The Police this summer could be as high as $232? Jay-Z & Mary J. Blige… $172? Bon Jovi… $130? Alicia Keys… $125? Celine Dion… $185?

On this day in 2002, one of the staples of Las Vegas, Elton John, accused the music industry of exploiting young singers and dumping talented artists for manufactured groups. He said “There are too many average and mediocre acts; it damages real talent getting airplay. It’s just fodder.”
