Two trains of thought today, both involving musicians and the big/small screen. First, given the news of the Gene Simmons sex tape, is that really news? Are rockstars caught on tape with a blonde 20-something a story that makes you go “wow”?

In the case of Gene, who is 58 years old and notorious for claiming he has slept with nearly 5,000 women, it would be much more intriguing if it was Richard Simmons than Gene caught on tape. Ponder that while you Google gene+simmons+sex+tape+58+year+old+man+having+sex

A friend asked me today if I had seen the film Control, a biopic about Ian Curtis, the suicidal lead singer of the British band Joy Division. I said I have, but then elaborated on the idea of what’s the difference in Control vs. Ray vs. Walk the Line? The stories behind Ray Charles and Johnny Cash are incredibly parallel… young musician struggles to break into the business, but has natural talent and star quality… meets a girl very early in his career with children to follow… rides the snake with a drink/drug/seizure habit… struggles with fame/finance/hangers-on… goes off into the sunset.

No, I haven’t seen Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story as of yet, but something tells me it’s the end-all-be-all film for the rockstar biopic.

Soooo… what will the Gene Simmons movie be called?
